Spring break. These words resonate with students, especially of the high school and college levels. Once you come back from this time off of school, one question is commonly asked by your peers, “What did you do over your spring break?” Senior Conrad Torres answered this question and recounted his spring break adventures.

Conrad had quite the itinerary planned for his week off. The first activity he set out to do was cliff jumping. He, along with his friends, seniors Christopher Oliveros, Carmen Flores and Jahlyssa Franco went to a hiking trail, Hermit Falls, in Monrovia. The hike ends at a 15-foot cliff and a steeper 50-foot cliff above a pool. Conrad jumped from both cliffs. The hike was a popular site during spring break. He met some high schoolers from Diamond Bar at the cliff jumping site as well as other fellow classmates who also heard of the hike.

Commenting on jumping off of the cliffs, Conrad said, “This experience was infused with adrenaline. It caused me to push myself and break away from a mental hindrance: fear.”

Next on his list was going to my uncle’s lake house in Yermo along with Chris and me. During our four days there, we went boating, tubing, extreme golf carting, and fishing. It was extremely windy at the desert-surrounded lake, and we experienced 50 mph winds and swam in 65 degree water. Conrad’s favorite activities were tubing and riding in a speedboat.

He expressed his time at the lake house as he said, “I got to hang out with my best friend and experience life in the desert. It was a freeing feeling being away from city life for a short amount of time.”

Another event that occurred during Conrad’s spring break was his promotion in martial arts. After receiving his black belt in taekwondo, he moved to Krav Maga and has been attending classes since January. Krav Maga is a military self defense system developed by the Israeli army.

Conrad explained, “Krav Maga is very brutal, and it is something that is beneficial in the real world. It overall pushes my limits, and I am learning strategic ways of fighting.”

To end his spring break excitement, Conrad traveled to an audition in L.A. on Monday. He auditioned for an appearance on E Sport Show. He recently received a callback and is waiting for the scheduled appointment time and date. Conrad began his acting career a little under a year ago, and he has so far been in a Fanta commercial, participated in a Microsoft photo shoot, and has been in Indie band, Wala’s, music video.

Conrad said, “Being confident and showing a personality is key. Having flexibility and being a good person to work with are what the acting industry looks for.”

Since this is his last high school spring break, Conrad wanted to try new things and be as adventurous as possible. His favorite activity was cliff jumping. He said, “It was my first time doing something daring. I was able to go with my best friends, and it is something I will always remember.”
