Musing (noun): a period of reflection and thought.”

The morning started like any other school day. Mrs. Bonnie Shockey’s IB students casually made their way into their zero and first periods. Then during a light drizzle, they strolled past the gates that led off campus. It was a strange feeling, leaving a school day behind–it almost felt rebellious.

We had a nice bus ride to The Huntington Library in San Marino. We made small talk with one another and celebrated three birthdays: Doaa Elafify and Noah Que, who both turned seventeen, and Madi Roset, who turned eighteen. It was a serene atmospheric experience listening to the conversations between students and the teachers who accompanied us.

I made it a quest to veer away from anything that could spoil what The Huntington had to offer. I did not look anything up online and did not ask anyone who had graduated before what their experience was like. I took to the advice of Mrs. Shockey and made it a point to find the subtle moments of the day for myself. Our assignment was a scavenger hunt that took us all across the Disneyland-esque landscape of gardens and museums. To put it simply, it was serene and atmospheric and almost transforming. Stepping into the Japanese and Chinese gardens made feel like I had stepped out of California.

Stepping into the Rose garden made me feel a bit strange. There were subtle inferences to time and the value we have to put in the beauty of time. How little time there is and how much beauty there is. A line in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off says: “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” This was something we discussed on the way back to Charter Oak, and it had me thinking. I find these small spaces in strange places, and I forgot about my troubles and distractions and, strange enough, focus on everything that has been rushing past you.

However, the gardens and museums cannot be experienced fully in a just under a day. It is merely impossible. Take the chance to spend an entire day or two there because the experience is worth it.

I LOVED the Huntington Library. The different areas and themed gardens were definitely worthwhile. I liked to make it a point of walking away and looking around and being by myself because it allows me to be one with myself and let my mind wander. Can’t wait to go back !

Very Interesting. Unfortunately, the first impression a reader gets of this article is a very obvious misspelling in the title on the Webpage. I was happy to see the correct name in the actual title of the article, but you might want to correct the preview on the Bolt website
