On Fri., Dec. 15, and Sat., Dec. 16, Charter Oak High School Choir is performing their winter show “The Spirit of the Season.” The show will take place at the H.K Baird Theater at Royal Oak Middle School at 7:00 p.m.

Charter Oak Choir will be performing holiday favorites from the past and present. Some songs are from Nightmare Before Christmas, Polar Express, and also Home Alone. Soloists include Cassandra Zambrano, senior, Graciela Aguilar, senior, and Cassandra Rosales, sophomore, and Audrey Canoy, senior, singing a duet together.

Mrs. Rebecca Portnoy, choir teacher, said, “We have been working on this music since the end of September.” She believes that a lot of work has been put into the winter concert. Katie Galdamez, sophomore, said, “We practice everyday in class, and at rehearsals we practice the dances.” Katie is also a part of the new women’s choir that will be the a new choral group that will be singing at the winter show.

Recently, the Advanced Choral Ensemble went on a “runaround” day, in which they went to many schools and retirement homes. ACE sang various songs, including some from their upcoming winter show. Their “runaround” day was from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

They also performed for the school staff on Dec. 6 before school as well. Señorita Debbie Wilson, Spanish teacher, said, “I loved it; it was really great, and I am going to go see it on Friday.” Also with the performance, the administrators had elf hats to get in the spirit as well as a Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus were there.

Peter Le, sophomore, said, “Performing in front of the [staff] was pretty amazing to bring them in the holiday spirit and bring joy to them.” Peter is a part of ACE and is looking forward to next week’s performance at Royal Oak.

Tickets can be purchased from https://charteroakchoir.weebly.com or you can get them directly from Mrs. Portnoy. If you plan on attending the concert on Friday night at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. Saturday afternoon at 2p.m. tickets are all $10 and at 7 p.m., and  they will be $15 for adults and $12 for students SAturday eveint.

Blake Dringenburg, sophomore, “[The show] will be really nice and well brought together that people will enjoy and be put in the Christmas spirit.” If you enjoy holiday lights and music, then this is the right show for you to attend.
