The rubber was burning on Friday, Feb. 16, as the Pomona Fairplex hosted the annual NHRA Winter Nationals. Schools from all over the valley, including CO, were in attendance to take part in a number of activities, including going for a tour through the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum to checking out the variety of sponsors that were present, such as the AAA Auto Club, U.S. Army, Chevron, Lucas Oil, Dodge and Circle K. Of course, the highlight of the field trip was bearing witness to record-breaking dragsters.

“The food was really overpriced,” said Aaron Ramirez, junior. “It wasn’t that big of a deal though. It’s not really what we went for. We came last year, and we loved the experience. It was a lot of fun. We knew we were going to go back, and we had another great time.”

Of course, it wasn’t all about fun and games. With a school trip also comes a lesson plan. “It was more than just a field trip” said Abel Macall, senior. “I had the opportunity to talk to people who have the same interests that I have with cars. I benefitted by learning more and getting more knowledge about possible careers.”
