Thurs., May 17, thousands filled the Hollywood Bowl parking lot patiently awaiting to attend Shawn Mendes’s One Night Only. Promoting his third album, self-titled, the artist collaborated with Apple Music to put on a show and questions & answer session. Held at the Ford Theatre in Los Angeles, 1,200 individuals were able to have a first live listen to a few songs off his Junior album.

Singer-Songwriter 19-year-old, Shawn Mendes has taken the world by storm with hits from his first two albums: “Stitches”, “Treat You Better”, and “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back.” The young artist promoted his third album, self-titled, “Shawn Mendes.”

Many lined up starting as early as the morning; fans filled the parking lot in anticipation. I arrived around 3:00pm to line up and get wristbanded. Soon after, they filed fans into buses to drive across the freeway to the Ford Theatre.

The second the buses touched down on the parking lot, all hell broke loose. With each bus opening at the same time, fans charged up the hill to line up awaiting entrance into the venue. As the show was partnered with a free ticketing company, no one knew where their seats would be.

Since the venue was only 1,200 capacity, the hope for a good seat was not a worry. Going down the line, three workers were in charge of passing out tickets to fans. After waiting in the sun and nearly getting ran over by a Range Rover multiple times, we were relieved to have the tickets in our hands.

Personally, the second my friend Taylor and I held the tickets, we looked up the seating chart to see where our seats were. Seeing row BB, we assumed we were towards the back, but instead, we got second row, which was a complete surprise especially since we were nowhere near the front of the line.

After going through security, the venue was filled with flowers and posters promoting “Shawn Mendes One Night Only with Apple Music.”

The stage itself had a beautiful scenic backdrop of the Hollywood Hills lined with palm trees and flowers. With instruments lining the stage and a main microphone in the middle, the stage was truly magnificent.

The show began at 8:30 pm, live streamed on Apple Music and YouTube. Opening with a new song off his Junior album, Lost In Japan, the vibes were felt throughout the venue. With both the crowd and Shawn buzzing with excitement and joy, the show was not one to miss. Continuing with some more old and new songs, the show was mixed with every genre and era.

Although Shawn himself put on a show-stopping performance, his new song brought the most energy. “Where Were You in the Morning?” was set to be released the next day. Bringing out John Mayer, fellow singer-songwriter, the crowd went wild. Not only did Shawn bring out John Mayer, Shawn also took the chance to jump into the crowd during the guitar solo.

After the performance, Shawn came back out with Apple Music Beats 1 host, Zane Lowe for the Q&A. Having a variety of questions from fans in the crowd and online, the Q&A portion filled with laughter.

Overall, Shawn’s One Night Only performance was stunning and a great night filled with promo and fan love for his Third Album.

Taylor Sakata said, “Shawn is an incredible performer and individual. His album is going to be amazing. He’s gotten so successful at such a young age and still manages to stay down to earth. Make sure to buy his album May 25!”

The performance will be available on Apple Music May 18 and Mendes’s third album, “Shawn Mendes” will be available everywhere May 25. These are two things you would not want to miss!
